LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (LAX)
Temporary Air Traffic Flow Changes
March 30 – April 1, 2020
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) plans to conduct flight checks to test the navigational equipment at LAX to ensure proper operation. Theses flight checks will require LAX to temporarily change the air traffic flow for 3 nights as follows:
- On Monday and Tuesday, March 30th & 31st, LAX plans to remain in Westerly Operations from 12 AM to 2:30 AM and then transition to Over-Ocean Operations from 2:30 AM to 6:30 AM if weather conditions permit.
- On Wednesday, April 1st, LAX plans to conduct Easterly Operations from 12 AM to 2:30 AM and then transition to Over-Ocean Operations from 2:30 AM to 6:30 AM if weather conditions permit.
LAX normally operates in Over-Ocean Operations from 12 AM to 6:30 AM, wherein aircraft arrive and depart over the ocean to minimize noise disturbance to the communities directly east of the airport. However, for these 3 nights, the FAA requires the airport to temporarily delay commencing this Over-Ocean configuration and operate in Westerly or Easterly Operations in order to test the navigational equipment. Persons living near the airport may notice changes in aircraft flight activity and associated noise during these test periods.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this special circumstance.
